Derek Rosa reportedly stabbed his mother more than 40 times at their home in Hialeah, Florida. After the attack, he called an online friend and sent her photos, including a selfie with what appeared to be blood on his hands.
This act led to Rosa being tried as an adult and he is currently being held without bail at the Metro West Detention Center, Telemundo reports.
Judge awaits medical records of detainee
During the hearing, Rosa’s attorneys again requested that the teen be transferred to a juvenile detention center and argued that the minor is not receiving adequate education at the adult facility.
The judge, however, denied the request, saying he needed to wait for the teenager’s medical records to be handed over before making a decision.
Derek Rosa’s family showed their unconditional support during the hearing.
The scene was particularly moving when the family broke down in tears upon seeing it on the screen, evidencing the deep emotional impact this case has had on them.
When is Derek Rosa’s trial scheduled?
Derek Rosa’s trial is scheduled for February 2025.
Defense attorneys are waiting for prosecutors to hand over all necessary evidence before this date.
