Chelsea beat West Ham 3-0 in the fifth round of the English Premier League. However, this was left in the background. What is constantly being talked about is the alleged death threat made by Edson Álvarez to the Argentine Enzo Fernández in the middle of the match. What began as a foul and a playful incident ended in a verbal exchange with great media exposure.
The fight broke out around the 50th minute of the match, after the third goal for Chelsea through Cole Palmer. Machín committed a foul that earned him a yellow card. Later, perhaps out of frustration, he addressed Enzo Fernández covering his mouth so that no one could read his lips.
According to reports, the West Ham midfielder challenged his Chelsea counterpart with a forceful: “I’ll wait for you…”. The situation escalated a notch in heat when the two confronted each other. Apparently, the Mexican threatened to kill him.
This is what the Argentine newspaper Olé reported. What did he say? “I’ll kill you outside, wherever you want.” The world champion did not let himself be intimidated and responded to Álvarez, although in a calm manner. “Come on, come on.” What was visible, however, were the pats on the back that the player gave Edson.
