The Israeli army confirmed new airstrikes against southern Lebanon and warned citizens of that country to stay away from buildings used by the Shiite group Hezbollah to store weapons, as it will soon launch a series of attacks against militia targets.

“In the last few hours we have detected plans by Hezbollah to attack citizens of the State of Israel. The army began attacking an hour ago. In the near future, the army will attack terrorist targets in Lebanon to eliminate the threats,” said the chief military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, at a press conference.

Tensions rise after attacks

Israel has launched a new campaign of intense bombings against different areas of southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley, strongholds of Hezbollah, amid growing tension following last week’s unprecedented attacks on Lebanese territory, EFE reported.

Southern Lebanon has been the scene of intense Israeli bombardment in recent hours, resulting in the deaths of at least three people.

The attacks have focused on the villages of Aitaroun, Khiyam and Al Malikiyah, where at least four people have also been injured, according to the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, Deutsche Welle reported.

“Hezbollah hit unexpectedly”

The Iranian-allied Lebanese Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah has responded to Israel by stepping up its launching of drones and rockets into northern Israel.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu toughened his stance on Sunday against the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, warning it that if it has not yet understood Israel’s actions following the recent escalation of attacks, it will soon do so.

“In recent days, we have hit Hezbollah in unexpected ways,” he said in a video, warning that the group would get the message if it hadn’t already.
