Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said the post-election crisis in her country will be a “major focus” of attention at the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week.

“All the world leaders will meet there and Venezuela will be the main focus of attraction, attention and support,” said the former deputy and engineer, who is leading the denunciation of fraud in the July 28 elections, in which Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed re-elected president, which has been questioned inside and outside the country.

Machado said, although without giving details, that “every day” next week there will be activities related to the claim of the main opposition coalition – Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – which claims that its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, won the presidential election.

“We will achieve this, this is until the end,” he insisted.

The liberal politician considered that the support expressed in the last week for González Urrutia, who was recognized as president-elect by the European Parliament and by the Chambers of several Latin American countries, is of “enormous importance” in the political arena.

He also recalled that in recent days he had held “very important conversations and very productive meetings” – all of them virtually – with leaders of the region and with the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken.

“Everyone is aligned, everyone is ready to support us until we can assert popular sovereignty (…), next week will be a very important one,” he stressed.

So far, Washington is organizing the only event on Venezuela at ministerial level, which will be held next Thursday, headed by Antony Blinken, according to US diplomatic sources confirmed to EFE, after another event that Chile had planned to organize failed.

The UN High Level Week is the great event of world diplomacy, a unique opportunity to discuss the most pressing conflicts, which is why the leaders of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, as well as the presidents of Ukraine and Sudan are expected in New York, among the 133 leaders who will attend.
