Following the arrest of rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs for extortion and sex trafficking, a 2002 interview has resurfaced and is causing quite a stir.

In the clip, which dates back to an interview with host Conan O’Brien aired in 2002, the music mogul “jokes” about the importance of “keeping” women at parties and suggested that it was necessary to lock them up so they wouldn’t leave.

During the show, Conan O’Brien asks the musician to describe the steps for organizing one of those wild parties he used to organize. “Killer Parties,” as they defined them.

“Women, beautiful women, of course,” Combs told the host. “Beautiful men for the ladies, of course.” When O’Brien suggested there be no other men at the party, Combs replied, “There are enough women to go around. You have to give the women what they need, too. You have to take care of your women. You can’t force the issue.”

Combs, now 54, went on to say that “a lot of alcohol” and water were needed, because “a lot of women drink water at parties, so if you don’t have what they need, they leave. You have to keep them there, you need locks on the doors,” he said, with an awkward laugh. He added: “It’s a little perverted.”

Diddy also told O’Brien that heating the room and keeping the air conditioning off was necessary to make people feel “comfortable and relaxed.” Beyond the humorous tone he gave to the story, part of this ends up being related to the accusations against him.

The filing comes in a week in which the rapper suffered a major legal setback, despite the work his lawyers had been doing in the face of the charges filed over the past year. Combs was arrested on Monday, September 16, for conspiracy to extort, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation for prostitution.

According to a report by Page Six, prosecutors said in the indictment that the rapper “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” for decades, “creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.”

Combs, who faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, pleaded not guilty to the charges in federal court in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday. However, a judge ordered the Bad Boy Records founder to be held without bail pending trial.

His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, said the rapper “is a fighter” and is not afraid to face the charges.

“He was waiting for this day to clear his name. He didn’t do these things,” Agnifilo said, insisting that the singer’s long-standing relationship, from which the allegations stem, was consensual and did not involve coercion or any crime.

Recent reports revealed that Sean “Diddy” Combs, 54, is under surveillance due to a potential suicide risk.
