Renowned boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said that Anthony Joshua will seek revenge against Daniel Dubois after the resounding knockout he received this weekend in front of more than 96,000 people in a fight that surprised boxing fans worldwide.
Hearn made these statements during an interview for Stomping Grounds, where he detailed that they would be focused on having a second fight with Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season in order to prove that what happened in the fight was a mere coincidence.
“We will remain respectful because I don’t think it’s fair, Daniel, but we have another fight with Riyadh Season that we can pursue. I think AJ will want it to be Daniel Dubois,” the promoter said in his statements.
“No, I don’t think so. So he’ll be devastated, he’ll be beating himself up and he’ll take the rest of the year off, and then you’ll see him back in 2025,” Hearn stressed, denying rumours about Anthony Joshua’s possible retirement after this fight, assuring that he still has a long way to go in his professional career.
Finally, Joshua’s promoter stressed that his fighter had approached this fight with the best attitude and focus possible by not being overconfident in his rival; despite this, he ended up being outclassed by Dubois’s punches.
“He was on a great run. He just got caught too early. He never really had a chance to get into the fight, but even under those circumstances, he almost found a way back.”
“He felt like he was getting back into the fight. I talked to him at length last night, and he was really prepared to go into the trenches. He told me, ‘I’m really prepared to do whatever it takes,’ and he never stopped trying. It was tough to watch at certain times in rounds two and three. He never stopped clinging, he never stopped punching, and we should be proud of him for that performance.”
