New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor increased his on-field activities on Sunday in order to return to the team’s ranks as soon as possible, saying he has fully recovered from the ailments affecting his back.

He made these statements during an interview with SNY, where he said that he wants to be able to take up his position again within the New York organization and even be able to return to support them in the postseason or even for the last games of the regular season.

“I’m optimistic that I’m going to play. I have faith, I believe in the Lord. I believe in what the coaches are doing. I think I’m doing everything I can day in and day out to try to get myself in a position where I can play again. I want to be there as much as anybody, and the coaches want me there as much as anybody. It’s just a matter of getting to that point where they’re going to feel safe and feel good. And then the same for me,” he said.

Lindor also said that he met all his goals in batting practice and various activities he did; he also expressed confidence in his recovery and assures that he will soon be back on the Major League diamonds.

“I actually achieved what I wanted. Every day I push things to the limit and today I reached that limit and I felt like it was enough. The goal is to come every day and work as hard as I can to reach the limit that the coaches want me to reach. And then go from there. Today I reached that threshold. Another day, another slow step in the right direction,” he emphasized.

“It’s tough. I want to see how I wake up tomorrow, how I recover tomorrow. And tomorrow I’ll continue doing more things and go from there,” he added regarding the possibility of being able to play in Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Finally, Francisco Lindor stressed that he still needs to meet a series of requirements from the Mets’ medical and coaching staff in order to return to action, and that is what he has been aiming for in recent days during practice.

“What I have to do is meet all the requirements. I’m pretty sure I don’t think I can play without pain. If I play this year, I don’t think I can do it without pain. I don’t have a problem with that. I just don’t want it to be a constant pain that prevents me from bending over. So, I would put my teammates in a position where I wouldn’t help them as much as I could. That’s not fair to anybody. For me, it’s being in a position where, if I’m in pain, it comes and goes,” concluded the shortstop.
