The New York Yankees remain unstoppable before the close of the regular season and this Sunday sealed the sweep in Oakland, after beating the Athletics 7-4, with which they left their magic number at one to be crowned champions of the American League East division.
The Yankees’ victory set their record at 92-64 and put them six games behind their closest pursuers, the Baltimore Orioles, whom they will face on Tuesday in a three-game series.
Part of the Manhattan Mules’ victory came thanks to the power of team captain and star Aaron Judge, who hit his 55th home run of the season.
Along with Judge, others who left for the street were the Venezuelan Gleyber Torres, who is closing the semester in impressive fashion, as well as the Dominican prospect Jasson Domínguez, who finished with two RBIs.
Additionally, the victory was credited to Luis Gil (15-6) for the third consecutive time despite having allowed five hits and four runs while Luke Weaver continued in his role as the new closer, replacing Clay Holmes, to remove the last out of the 8th and the three remaining outs of the ninth inning.
After the series against Baltimore, the Yankees will close the season at Yankee Stadium against the Pittsburgh Pirates, whom they will face from Friday the 27th to Sunday the 29th, before beginning to prepare for the postseason.
