Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began a trip to the United States to present his so-called Victory Plan to President Joe Biden with a visit to a factory in Pennsylvania that produces 155mm artillery ammunition that the Ukrainian army uses en masse on the front.
“It is an honor for us to begin our visit to the United States right in Scranton, at this plant in Pennsylvania. We are very happy to have such partners,” Zelensky said in a statement from the Ukrainian presidential administration.
In a speech recorded on the plane he took across the Atlantic, the Ukrainian president explained that during the trip he will present his “Victory Plan” to Biden, the two candidates to succeed him in the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, and the United States Congress.
“Weapons to defend our independence and our people. Diplomacy to consolidate partners and force Russia to peace. And justice to hold Russia accountable for this war and to suffer its consequences,” Zelensky said of what he hopes to achieve from his allies with this document, the details of which have not yet been made public.
Zelensky also said that, in addition to Biden, who will be the first to receive the document, he will present his plan to the rest of his allies.
He will meet many of them in New York, where the Ukrainian leader has travelled from Pennsylvania and is scheduled to take part, along with other heads of state and government from around the world, in the UN General Assembly.
According to the Kyiv Independent, Zelensky will present his ‘Victory Plan’ to Biden at the White House on September 26.
During his trip, the president will also insist that the United States and other allies that have transferred long-range missiles to Ukraine allow them to be used to strike air bases and other military targets inside Russia.
Zelensky’s trip to the United States will last about a week. According to Ukrainian media, the kyiv leader will also meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during those days.
