Argentine midfielder naturalized Ecuadorian Damián Díaz suffered a serious injury in Banfield’s 2-0 victory over Independiente Rivadavia on matchday 15 of the Professional Football League in Argentina.

The incident occurred just a month after his arrival at the club, when his left ankle caught on the turf while he tried to sweep in a play near the right side of midfield.

The inertia of the movement caused the ankle to twist and set off alarms in the state south of the Argentine capital.

The image of Díaz holding his ankle and showing obvious signs of pain generated immediate concern among fans and the coaching staff of his team, Banfield. The attacking midfielder ended up on the ground and holding his ankle with clear signs of pain. The image was uploaded to social media and quickly went viral.

At the time of the injury, Banfield’s medical team quickly entered the field to assist Díaz, who was unable to put weight on his foot and had to be removed from the game on a medical cart. During the treatment, the player repeatedly expressed his pain and concern, which increased fears about a possible serious injury, although it has not yet been confirmed by his club.

In the coming hours, Díaz is expected to undergo a series of medical tests to assess the extent of the sprain and determine the appropriate treatment. The club and Banfield fans are awaiting news that may shed light on the player’s immediate future.

Kitu, 38, has been a key piece in Banfield’s scheme since his arrival, consolidating himself as an undisputed starter in the team led by Gustavo Munúa. His performance has been fundamental, and his absence could represent a significant blow, at a time when Taladro began to recover since against Lepra Mendocina they achieved their second consecutive victory.

Once the severity of the injury is determined, the recovery time required for the former Barcelona player from Ecuador, Rosario Central, Boca Juniors, Colón de Santa Fe, who also had a stint with Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, will be known.
