Last Friday night, Jennifer Aniston was surprised by an unexpected visit from the Los Angeles police due to an incident involving a “swatting” prank.
According to reports obtained by TMZ, a person made a call to authorities stating that a dangerous situation was occurring and that they were concerned for a friend, without mentioning Aniston directly, but providing her exact address, claiming that the person “was not feeling well” since she had threatened to take her own life.
Reports indicate the actress who played Rachel Green on the “Friends” series was asleep at home when officers arrived, alerted by the report that she was threatening to commit suicide.
Police responded to the call and arrived quickly at the scene shortly after midnight, meeting with the actress’s security staff, who were surprised by the officers’ presence.
After speaking with Aniston, the officers decided to leave after determining that there was no danger and that the claims were completely unfounded. The actress, 55, assured them that she was fine and that she was not in any dangerous situation.
Jennifer Aniston has been in the spotlight not only for her acting career, but also for the harassment many celebrities face through these dangerous pranks.
What is ‘swatting’?
Swatting is a type of illegal prank in which a person makes a call to emergency services to report unsafe situations in someone’s home, triggering an immediate response from the authorities.
Celebrities who have been victims of ‘swatting’
This phenomenon is not new in the world of celebrities, as in addition to the recent case of Jennifer Aniston, in the past, figures such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Justin Bieber have been the target of similar situations, having to respond to the unexpected presence of the authorities in their homes, resulting in a significant waste of police resources due to this type of tasteless jokes.
