The launch of the first official trailer for “Ballerina”, starring the actress of Latin origin Ana de Armas, and which constitutes the first film in the extended universe of the “John Wick” saga, left a pleasant surprise for fans of said franchise with the surprising return of Keanu Reeves in one of his most iconic roles in recent years: the relentless assassin John Wick.

Released on September 26, “Ballerina” becomes the first attempt in the Lionsgate saga to extend the “John Wick” universe through a story closely linked to the main character but with its own freedoms and nuances.

The story, starring De Armas, follows the life of a hitwoman who becomes involved in this underground but deadly world while trying to follow her own dreams as a professional dancer.

How much will Keanu Reeves appear in “Ballerina”?

Set to music by Elton John’s iconic song “Tiny Dancer”, the first trailer makes it clear that “Ballerina” will follow the path laid out by the “John Wick” films: studied action scenes, spectacular maneuvers and dozens of deaths at the hands of murderers.

However, and in addition to the visible gender change of the protagonist, the film directed by Len Wiseman, promises to delve into the dozens of subplots of this saga through a charismatic but lethal Ana de Armas, who seeks to establish her name in the cinema of action after his participation in “No Time To Die in 2022″.

Regarding Reeves’ real participation in this film, and thanks to what was shown in the trailer, everything seems to indicate that “Ballerina” will be placed between the third and fourth installment of “John Wick.” Likewise, there will be an interaction between Keanu Revees and Ana de Armas, who even, and within the trailer, knows the American actor’s character by calling him by his nickname.

This is not the first time the actors have shared the screen. In 2015, through the film “Toc Toc,” directed by Eli Roth, Reeves and de Armas worked together for the first time at a time when the actress was beginning her career.

In addition to Reeves, “Ballerina” will also bring back other actors from the original saga such as Ian McShane, as Winston, the late performer Lance Reddick, as Charon, Anjelica Huston as The Director, among others.

The new film from the extended universe of “John Wick” also becomes the second product extracted from the original saga after the launch of the series “The Continental”, this 2024, on the Prime Video streaming platform.

“Ballerina” will hit theaters around the world on June 6, 2025.
