The blow that Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez dealt to a television cameraman at the end of the match that Argentina lost against Colombia (2-1) is going to cost the Albiceleste goalkeeper dearly.
The website of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) revealed the punishment that the goalkeeper will receive.
“Despite the defense made by the player and the Argentine Football Association, the Disciplinary Commission of the governing body of World Football made the following decision:
The footballer, Mr. Damián Emiliano Martínez, is declared responsible for his offensive behavior and his violation of the principles of fair play (art. 13 CDF) in relation to the Argentina vs. Argentina matches. Chile played on September 5, 2024 and Argentina vs. Colombia. played on September 10, 2024 as part of the preliminary competition for the 2026 FIFA World CupTM.
The Respondent is suspended for two (2) games. Said suspension will be served during the next official match(es) of the representative team of the Argentine Football Association in accordance with art. 69 CDF.
It should be noted that the Argentine Football Association expresses its absolute disagreement with the decision made by the FIFA disciplinary commission,” the AFA published.
After the suspension, Lionel Scaloni will lose ‘Dibu’ Martínez for the qualifying matches against Venezuela and Bolivia, scheduled for Thursday, October 10 and 15, respectively.
