The American gymnast Olivia Dunne, who has achieved great popularity with more than 5.3 million followers on Instagram and more than 8 on TikTok, recently shared the disturbing comments that some of her followers leave her on her publications.
During a conversation with her partner Flau’jae Johnson on the ‘Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae’ podcast, Dunne revealed some of the strangest requests she has received throughout her social media career.
Among the most surprising examples, Olivia mentioned: “Do you know what they put me up for a long time in my comments section? “People asked me for the water I used to bathe.” This confession shows the level of intensity and sometimes dislocation that online followers can reach, which can cause discomfort in public figures, especially young athletes like Dunne.
The gymnast reflected on that moment, admitting that she thought, “where has my life come?” As disturbing as it may sound, Dunne addressed it with humor, adding that although “these people are asking for the water I bathe with,” over time the situation calmed down. Despite this, he does not forget how shocking it was, remembering what happened as something “crazy that I will never forget, and in a way I interpreted it as a joke. “It was fun at the time.”
In addition to the strange comments, Olivia Dunne also acknowledged the frustration she feels when people minimize her success, attributing it solely to her physical appearance and not her athletic ability. During the talk, she was clear in expressing her discontent with this misperception: “One of the things that bothers me the most is when people say, ‘She doesn’t deserve anything she has’ and that ‘gymnastics isn’t a real sport.’ ‘ and things like that.”
This type of criticism highlights a recurring problem in the lives of many female athletes, who often face the prejudice that their value lies more in their physique than in their athletic ability. In Dunne’s case, his popularity on social media and his success in sports have been the subject of debate, underestimating the effort and dedication required to reach his level in gymnastics.
