The Democratic candidate for the presidency of the United States, Kamala Harris, assured this Friday in Douglas, Arizona, that if she is elected in November, she will maintain the current restrictions on asylum and will reinforce measures to keep the border closed between ports of entry.

In her first visit to the border as a candidate, Harris assured that she will intensify efforts to reduce irregular crossings and protect national sovereignty.

The Democrat, in a Republican bastion, highlighted that she will make it difficult to eliminate the executive order implemented by Joe Biden’s government, which has reduced detentions at the border to 2019 levels, Efe reports.

He also noted that he will seek to pass a bipartisan bill, previously blocked by Republicans, that would permanently tighten the asylum system and increase border security.

The candidate also attacked Donald Trump, whom she accused of failing in his leadership and derailing immigration proposals for political interests.

Harris promised a firm but humane approach at the border. And he warned that those who cross irregularly will be detained, expelled and will face severe penalties, especially repeat offenders.

During his speech, he reiterated his commitment to working with Republicans and independents to reform the immigration system and combat drug trafficking, especially fentanyl.

With his message focused on security, migration and bipartisan cooperation, he seeks to attract votes in traditionally Republican areas and position himself as a “common sense” option compared to his opponent.
