New York City FC took a spectacular five-to-one victory against their city rival Red Bulls, for week 28 of the MLS in the Hudson River Derby.
With this victory, the winners ended a streak of nine games without winning and climbed to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 44 points, the same as their current rival.
Argentine attacker Maxi Moralez opened the scoring in the 5th minute after stealing a pass from goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and scored from near the penalty spot, while Alonso Martínez beat Andrés Reyes and beat Coronel to make it 2-0 in the minute seven.
Dante Vanzeir scored a goal in his second straight game to cut the Red Bulls’ deficit to 2-1 in the 28th minute, but Andrés Perea headed in a perfectly placed cross played by Tayvon Gray in the 33rd minute and Martínez scored from the center from the area in the fifth minute of added time of the first half to make the final 4-1.
NYCFC is the first team in Hudson River Derby history to score four goals in one half.
Gray scored his first MLS goal to make it 5-1 in the 68th minute. Moralez played a backpass from near the penalty spot to Gray, who finished with a touch from outside the box.
On the next date, NY Red Bulls will visit Toronto FC and NYCFC will play at home against FC Cincinnati.
