A 32-year-old victim was stabbed in the chest in an apparent random attack on a quiet Brooklyn street, authorities and witnesses said.

The man was standing outside a Mediterranean restaurant on Seventh Ave. near Lincoln Place in Park Slope around 9 p.m. Tuesday when an unknown man approached him and stabbed him, according to the Police Department. of New York (NYPD).

The perpetrator may have said something under his breath just before plunging his knife into his victim, officials said.

“The guy was on the other side and he just crossed the street, turned around, stabbed the guy and just ran away,” said Sydni Hines, who works at a nearby restaurant. “The victim was next to [de nosotros]. “I was standing with two or three other people.”

Paramedics rushed the injured man to New York-Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was expected to survive his injuries.

The victim told the agents that he did not recognize the attacker. Likewise, NYPD stated that there was no type of interaction between the two individuals before the attack.

“From what I understand, it seems like this was random,” said one witness, who requested anonymity. “It’s quite shocking because this is a good area, I’ve never heard of an incident like that here.”

“I just hope the guy is okay,” he said.

Hines also indicated that it may have been a random attack.

“I don’t know if anything happened before, but from what we saw… it just seemed random,” he said. “It’s not shocking because it’s Brooklyn. But for the area it is shocking because it is Park Slope, it is a pretty good area.”

Overall crime in Park Slope, which is protected by the 78th Precinct, has dropped considerably in 2024, the NYPD said.

As of September 22, New York authorities have seen an 18% decrease in assaults in the neighborhood, from 148 in 2023 to 121. Robberies also decreased by 30%, reported Daily News.

However, the number of murders in the area has increased from one last year to two, officials said.

Investigators recovered security camera footage of the attacker, who has a thick beard, and was wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans on the night of the attack.

The NYPD released the images of the subject in question on Saturday in the hope that someone from the public will recognize him and report his whereabouts.

A reward of $3,500 has even been offered for any information leading to his capture.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All leads will be kept confidential.
