A few days after Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas formally finalized their divorce process after more than a year of legal battles, the actress opened up and shared how this separation has changed her life.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, the ‘Game of Thrones’ star, 28, admitted that being a single mother is very difficult.
“It is very difficult to be a single mother… It is also very important for children to see how much parents work for them,” she said.
Sophie Turner currently plays the role of Joan Harrington in the series “Joan”, a jewel thief who is also a single mother, so she claims that being a mother helped her interpret the character better.
“If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I put into it. Joan changed me a lot. Out of utter desperation comes a lot of will and ambition. The series came at a time in my life when I had to be ambitious and have a very strong will and fight against the forces. “She gave me a lot of strength,” he declared.
Turner filmed ‘Joan’ in Europe while her daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, stayed with Joe Jonas in the United States. The now ex-husbands were involved in a bitter custody dispute regarding their daughters’ primary residence.
“There is so much stigma that comes with motherhood,” Turner told the outlet. “You go to work, they criticize you. If you don’t work, they criticize you.”
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner reached a joint custody agreement for their children, as well as a division of assets in the mediation of their divorce.
As of September 2023, Sophie Turner had a legal battle with Joe Jonas in court to be able to return to her hometown in England with Willa and Delphine. The Jonas Brothers singer, originally from New Jersey, requested that the girls remain in the United States. In the end, Turner and Jonas agreed to share custody and allow their children to travel between the two countries on equal terms.
For Sophie Turner, her divorce from Joe Jonas became “agony” and she said in an interview for British Vogue last May that there were days when “she didn’t know if she would get it.”
“They were the worst days of my life. There were days when I didn’t know if I was going to survive. I called my lawyer and said, ‘I can’t do it. Can’t’. “I was never strong enough to defend myself,” the actress told the publication.
