The president of the United States, Joe Biden, paid tribute to former president Jimmy Carter on the occasion of his 100th birthday, which he will celebrate on October 1. He highlighted his legacy as one of the most influential statesmen in the country’s history.

In a video released this Sunday, the president described Carter as a “moral force” and a “dear friend.” The former president, who governed from 1977 to 1981, decided in 2023 to receive palliative care due to brain cancer, and chose to spend his remaining time at home with his family.

Biden acknowledged Rosalynn’s absence on this first birthday without her, but assured that her spirit is still present. The former first lady died in November of last year at the age of 96 at her home in Plains, Georgia.

“We know this is the first birthday without Rosalynn. It’s bittersweet, but we also know that she is always with you. “She is in your heart, she will never leave,” Biden added in the video, who wished Carter a happy 100th birthday on behalf of the entire Biden family and the American people.

Biden highlighted Carter’s hope in the country

President Biden highlighted Carter’s hopeful vision for the country, his commitment to a better world, and his unwavering belief in human goodness: “Your hopeful vision for our country, your commitment to a better world, and your unwavering belief in the power of Human kindness continues to be a guiding light for us all.”

The president added that there is a continuing impact of the Carter Center, a foundation created by the former president dedicated to resolving conflicts, promoting democracy and preventing disease.

“Even after leaving office, the moral clarity you demonstrated throughout your career was shown again in your commitment through the Carter Center,” the president said.
