Both the New York Yankees and the New York Mets achieved their main objective in 2024, which was to reach the Major League postseason, but unless they meet in the upcoming World Series, both teams are expected to star in a war to the death for Dominican outfielder Juan Soto. .
Soto’s contribution has been fundamental for the Yankees by hitting 41 home runs and driving in 109 runs. However, contrary to popular belief, Soto’s idea is to enter free agency in 2025 at the suggestion of his agent Scott Boras.
Now, a report from ESPN journalist, Buster Olney sees the Mets as the only ones who could change the mind of the Dominican who apparently feels very comfortable in Yankee Stadium.
“We don’t really know what’s in Soto’s heart: does he really want to stay with the Yankees or does he like a lot of teams? And by the way, this is entirely your prerogative; some players equate money with respect. “Is Soto looking to get a record amount of dollars from one of these teams?” Olney said in Pinstripe Territory.
Part of the rivalry that could be created between the Yankees and Mets is due to the economic power of the Big Apple team, chaired by Steve Cohen, who also said that he hopes to meet with Soto to have a conversation with him and make him an offer.
“I think in the end someone is going to outbid the Yankees. “I can’t imagine Hal (Steinbrenner) doing crazy numbers and we don’t know if Steve Cohen will do what he does with some of his art and just put the competition out of business,” Olney added.
For several months it has been said that Soto will enter free agency to seek a contract that will bind him for at least 14 seasons and at least $500 million dollars, expecting to earn more than $40 million dollars per season.
