Former President Donald Trump raised more than a million dollars to help victims of the disaster left behind by Hurricane Helene.

The Republican’s campaign launched a GoFundMe website after the New York magnate’s visit to Georgia, where he visited the areas most affected by the cyclone.

“With so many people in the Southeastern United States facing challenges after the storm, President Trump is in the communities to see the consequences firsthand,” the page says.

“All donations will go to help those most affected by Hurricane Helene. “Any level of generosity will be a great help to your fellow Americans who are suffering.”

Among the donors is former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., who donated $500,000. Bass Pro Shop, known for its nature-themed stores and wide range of hunting, fishing and outdoor equipment, also donated $100,000.

Likewise, a donor named Dana White, presumably the CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, who is a close friend of Trump and spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention, donated $100,000.

For his part, billionaire William Ackman promised $100,000 more. Other donors who joined the initiative included Kid Rock, Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasco and experienced personal injury attorney Dan Newlin.

The former president made a visit to Valdosta, Georgia, where he criticized the federal response to the disaster, Fox News reported.

“Our hearts are with you and we will be with you as long as you need us,” he said, flanked by a group of elected officials and Republican supporters.

President Joe Biden criticized Trump for “lying” about federal contacts with Georgia authorities during the response.

“I don’t know why he’s doing this,” Biden said. “I don’t care what it says about me, but what it communicates to people who need it. It suggests that we are not doing everything we can. We are doing it. We are doing it.”

The US executive indicated that he would visit Asheville, North Carolina, to assess the damage left by Helene.

The hurricane’s death toll rose to more than 100 as of Monday night.
