Antique coin collectors should check out their pieces, as a dime could be worth more than half a million dollars.
The 1975 coin known as the ‘No-S’ Proof Roosevelt dime is a rare piece that has caught the attention of collectors.
In 2019, one of these coins sold for $456,000, and a second recently discovered coin is expected to fetch a higher value.
The ‘No-S’ denomination refers to the absence of the letter ‘S’, indicating that it was struck at the San Francisco Mint.
According to a listing in Great Collections, approximately six ‘No S’ dimes lacking the mint mark were mistakenly released by the US Mint in 1968, which were used to strike proof coins .
To date, only two of these coins are known; one was sold in 2011 for $349,600, and later in 2019 reached $456,000 at auction.
The buyer, just five days later, resold it for $516,000 to a Roosevelt coin collector.
Recently, three sisters from Ohio revealed the existence of the second rare coin in their possession.
This coin, which they have called ‘Ruth E discovery coin’, was inherited and had been kept in a safe deposit box for over 40 years. It is now up for auction through GreatCollections.
