Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever player, was recognized this Thursday as the Rookie of the Year in the WNBA, according to the team itself on its social networks.
Known for being the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in both men’s and women’s competitions, Clark came to the league with high expectations, being selected number one in the draft. Not only did it meet expectations, but it surpassed several records.
Among her most notable achievements, the point guard broke the WNBA record for assists in a season with 337, in addition to setting the most assists in a single game with 19. She also set a new record for points for a rookie, reaching 769 , and set a new mark for triples with 122.
Clark received 66 of the 67 possible votes for Rookie of the Year, with Angel Reese, her NCAA competitor and current Chicago Sky player, taking the only other available vote after an outstanding debut season.
Clark was a key player in the 40 games the Fever played during the regular season, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.33 steals per game. She led the rookies in every category mentioned except rebounding, where she was third. Additionally, she was selected to the All-Star and named Player of the East in August.
