The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán, spoke about the possibility of seeing the Mexican and champion of three super middleweight divisions, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez in a new confrontation against the Russian Dmitry Bivol considering that It wouldn’t be positive for him right now.
These statements were made by the manager during an interview with various media outlets in which he explained that seeing him in the light heavyweight category would be unfavorable for him and this would mean that he could lose again against Bivol in a fight.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to look higher up, the light heavyweight. He is a fighter who has already achieved everything that can be achieved,” Sulaimán said in his statements, detailing that Canelo would be risking everything he has currently achieved by wanting to climb again to 175 pounds.
“It is risking a lot because his natural weight is even medium, it is not super medium. He was super welterweight champion, middleweight champion for many years, then he has been playing, flirting with the super middleweight and the light heavyweight,” he added.
Finally, the president of the World Boxing Council emphasized that due to his physical level, Canelo’s rivals at 175 pounds would have a greater advantage over him and this is what causes him to lose in the confrontation, which is why he urged him to continue at 168 pounds to be able to regain the title of undisputed champion.
“But he is a small boxer who gives a lot of advantage if he moves up to light heavyweight,” concluded Mauricio Sulaimán, who highlighted that Bivol has all the advantage due to his size and muscle mass that surpasses that of Canelo.
