Gwendolyn Guyton, a 29-year-old woman, died yesterday after being stabbed during a fight with another woman in a warehouse in The Bronx (NYC).
The NYPD responded to “Jose Mini Market Inc.” at 549 Southern Blvd. in the Longwood section, around 3:15 p.m. Thursday for reports of a woman severely stabbed multiple times in the neck and torso. She was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln, where she was pronounced dead.
Alex Ali was working at the store when a fight broke out between two women that quickly got out of control. “I was trying to separate them, but when she pulled out the knife I backed away a little bit,” he told ABCNews. “She was lying covered in blood,” said another witness, Mario Marrero. “It was very bad, very bad.”
It is unclear what sparked the argument. “She had a 10-year-old son and that’s sad,” said Shelby Miller, a friend of the victim. “I mean, nothing can be bad enough for someone to take another person’s life.”
The suspect fled on a white scooter wearing a green t-shirt and blue sweatpants. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). This crime recalled the homicide that also occurred in The Bronx in 2018 of Lesandro “Junior” Guzmán Feliz, a fifteen-year-old who ran into another warehouse to flee from a gang of gang members, but they dragged him to the street and hacked him to death, when he They apparently confused him with a rival.
The interior and surroundings of stores in NYC are frequently crime scenes, including robberies, homicides, and attacks on employees.
In general, stabbings and cuts are common in New York City. There were 4,493 cases in 2023 until early December, an increase of 6% compared to the same period in 2022. In parallel, arrests for knife crimes increased almost 30%.
A previous NYPD report warned in August 2023 that fatal stabbings had risen 29% that year in the city compared to before the pandemic (2019). Attacks with knives have become more frequent in various scenarios: streets, buildings, homes, buses, Metro, parties, schools, commercial establishments and ATM areas.
