Manchester City fans plan to display a banner in support of Pep Guardiola during this Saturday’s match against Fulham, asking him to continue as the team’s manager beyond the end of his contract, which expires this summer.
A group of fans has raised a thousand pounds (just over $1,300) to finance the creation of the banner, with the aim of persuading the coach to renew his commitment to the club.
Faced with this gesture from the fans, Guardiola expressed his gratitude and suggested that they not spend the money on the banner, mentioning: “You have to give me the bill and I will pay for the banner. I don’t want them to spend money on that. What can I say? I appreciate it very much, I fell in love with the club from the first day I arrived. “What is going to happen, will happen.”
The Spanish coach is about to complete his ninth season at Manchester City, with his contract ending on June 30, and so far he has shown no clear indications that he is willing to extend his relationship with the team.
His possible departure this summer could coincide with the resolution of the case of the 115 charges related to violations of financial fair play that the club faces. In addition, there has been speculation that Guardiola could take a place in the English team, which currently has an interim coach after the departure of Gareth Southgate at the end of the European Championship.
