The 2024 Major League Baseball regular season has come to an end. Now with only the playoffs to be defined, the end of the harvest is getting closer and closer, its final point being the World Series that begins on October 25.
When the 2024 World Series champion is known, several players will end their contracts and enter free agency. So from the end of November until Opening Day of the 2025 season, we will see franchises trying to sign players in free agency.
Some of them reach this stage quite highly valued. Well, they are coming off an incredible 2024 season, so it is possible that their value for 2025 has grown. These are some of the most sought-after free agents for the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
Juan Soto
Without a doubt, free agency for the 2025 season will feature Juan Soto. And the 25-year-old Dominican is coming off a unique season with the Yankees. 41 home runs and 109 RBIs support his performance.
That is why for this free agency he will undoubtedly be the most sought after. Some rumors say that Soto could sign an agreement close to $500 million dollars for 12 seasons. And franchises like the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and obviously the New York Yankees already have their eyes on him.
Willy Adames
Another Dominican that several franchises will try to go for will be Willy Adames. The shortstop was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021 and in 2022 he signed a contract for $4.6 million.
The following year, and after a good season, he signed a contract for another year in exchange for $8.7 million dollars. This operation was repeated in 2023 for $12.2 million dollars, so by 2025 Adames is a free agent and after his season of 32 home runs and 112 RBIs, he will be attractive to several teams.
Pete Alonso
The New York Mets have not yet made clear their intention to extend Pete Alonso’s contract. Which ends at the end of the season and has a current salary of $20.5 million per year. The “Polar Bear”, as he is often nicknamed, finished the year with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs and an average of .240.
Alex Bregman
The experienced Houston Astros third baseman will enter free agency at the age of 30 after a season with a .260 average, 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. Some rumors even already link him to the New York Yankees for 2025.
Other names who had a good 2024 season and will try to take advantage of their free agent status in 2025 will be Teoscar Hernández, Anthony Santander, Tyler O’Neill, Jurickson Profar and Marcell Ozuna.
