The historic Mexican world champion and now boxing promoter, Óscar de la Hoya, assured that he is the main person responsible for the success that the also Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez currently has by stating that he built his career to what it is today; This despite the enmity that has existed between the two for a couple of years and which represented the departure of the Guadalajara man from ‘Golden Boy Promotions’.

These statements were made by De La Hoya during his most recent social media video for the ‘Clap Back Thursdays’ podcast, in which he also harshly criticized Eddie Hearn after he said that the promoter was running out of high-level fighters.

Óscar de la Hoya highlighted that he was in charge of commanding Canelo Álvarez’s career for 10 years until he managed to take him to stardom as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters; Likewise, he considered that Hearn was only with him for eight fights that did not make any difference in the success he already recorded.

“And you always bring up the fact that Canelo hates me. Yes, we hate each other, but that doesn’t change the fact that I promoted it for 10 years and built it from the ground up in the United States. Canelo was with you for 8 fights. and he left you because you are incompetent and incapable of doing your job, and your record proves it,” he said.

Matchroom Curse

The owner of Golden Boy Promotions also mocked Hearn by explaining how the “Matchroom Curse” works, where according to De La Hoya, all of Hearn’s main fighters have been losing their fights and suffering injuries due to poor preparation.

“Eddie Hearn lost his mind after I told the truth last week that all his fighters lose or get injured. Am I not imagining that 14 of your top fighters lost this year? 14 fighters! “It happened again last week with Sandy Ryan and the week before with AJ, and the week before when Shakur was injured, and the week before when Berlanga was destroyed,” he highlighted.

“You must be the biggest pathological liar on the planet to keep trying to convince us that you are good at your job. It’s a disaster, the Matchroom curse is real,” concluded De la Hoya.
