Dani Carvajal confirmed through his social networks that he suffers “a serious cruciate ligament injury” in his right knee, after the incident in the final minutes of the League match between Villarreal and Real Madrid.
“A serious cruciate ligament injury is confirmed, I will have to undergo surgery and be off the playing field for a few months. I’m already looking forward to starting recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all very much for your messages, I feel very loved,” Carvajal wrote on his Instagram account with a photo from the ambulance that was transporting him from the Santiago Bernabéu.
In addition, the Real Madrid medical report expanded the diagnosis, pointing out that the player also has a “rupture of the external collateral ligament and rupture of the popliteal tendon.”
“After the tests carried out on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, a rupture of the external collateral ligament and a rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg. “He will be operated on in the coming days,” the club detailed on its website, confirming the seriousness of the situation.
According to club sources consulted by EFE, Carvajal will undergo surgery in approximately five days, once the inflammation in the affected areas decreases. The time out will be determined mainly by the rupture of the cruciate ligament, but it is estimated that his recovery will take between eight and ten months.
The moment of the injury occurred in an unfortunate attempt to hit the ball during a confrontation with Yeremy Pino. When he fell to the ground, Carvajal immediately put his hands on his right knee, which worried his teammates, who quickly called medical services.
The scene, where the player had to leave the field on a stretcher and in tears, made us fear the worst.
