Florida authorities have warned about the serious levels of changes on the coast of that state after the passage of Hurricane Milton, which is approaching and will arrive this Wednesday night towards Tampa and the Gulf Coast.
United States Geological Survey (USGS) Supervising Physical Scientist Kara Doran highlighted the importance of the coastal change forecast for Milton’s impact on the west coast of Florida.
“The importance of the coastal change forecast for Milton’s impact on the west coast of Florida cannot be overstated, as I believe communities are more vulnerable to the impacts of this storm due to the erosion that recently occurred from Helene,” He stated in statements reported by ABC News.
Additionally, most of the state’s west coast has suffered flooding and complete dune erosion as a result of Hurricane Helene in September, leaving coastal communities with less protection than before, Doran said. The USGS estimates that Milton’s waves and storm surge could cause 100% of all oceanfront beaches to experience erosion and overtopping.

Hundreds of miles of the state’s coastline have been eroded or critically modified, threatening upland development, recreational interests, wildlife habitat and important cultural resources in recent years, according to the Department of Environmental Protection. from Florida.
Hurricane Milton joins a long list of damaging storms that have disrupted Florida’s coasts along the Panhandle, including Hurricane Ian, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Michael. Authorities urge coastal communities to take preventive measures and be prepared for possible evacuations.
