In July 2021, forward Sergio “Kun” Agüero signed with FC Barcelona for two seasons as a free agent after ending his contract with Manchester City. Club in which he played for 10 seasons.
However, the Argentine’s stay at the Catalan club lasted much less than expected. Well, after recovering from an injury that did not allow him to be with Barça since the beginning of the season, he barely played five games, until on October 30, 2021, it was reported that the player suffered a cardiac arrhythmia.
Therefore, the doctors suggested that he not play anymore and Agüero ended up retiring from football at the age of 33 and with a current contract with FC Barcelona, with whom he had barely played 165 minutes in four LaLiga games and one in the Champions League.
This early retirement of the player suggested a problem for FC Barcelona. Club with which he had a current contract, since the agreement stipulated a salary for the player of $6 million dollars per season.
However, and after his forced retirement due to cardiac arrhythmia, both parties reached an agreement not to pay the player for the second year of his contract, but for the first, so FC Barcelona had to pay the remaining $3 million dollars for the second half of the season in which the footballer did not play.
Since then three years have passed and the former Argentine soccer player has not received his share of the money as agreed. That is why Agüero has decided to sue the club legally to force them to pay the debt of $3 million dollars.
The plaintiff’s intention is to reach an out-of-court settlement and they are willing to accept a payment schedule. The trial has not yet started, nor has any hearing been held, because what the player wants is to close this chapter making as little noise as possible.
