New York – A Turkish Airlines pilot died mid-flight on a route from Seattle (USA) to Istanbul, and the plane, led by another pilot and the co-pilot, made an emergency landing in New York without incident, according to the Turkish airline.
The Airbus 350-900 had taken off from Seattle, in the northwest United States, on Tuesday night, airline spokesman Yahya Ustun wrote in X, and was heading to Istanbul when “the pilot collapsed during the flight.”
The crew tried unsuccessfully to revive him, so it was decided to make an emergency landing, but the pilot “died before landing,” he added.
The 59-year-old pilot had worked for Turkish Airlines since 2007 and had passed a medical examination last March, which gave no indication of any health problems, Ustun wrote.
According to the digital media AirLive, the landing took place at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, three hours after the medical incident aboard Turkish Airlines flight TK204.
