The match between Betis and Sevilla for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey was suspended this Friday after a fan threw a blunt object against the Sevilla player Joan Jordán and he fell unconscious on the field of play.
According to those present, the object would have been a plastic bar that ended up hitting Jordán’s head at 39 minutes of the first half and just after the Olympic goal that the Frenchman from Betis Nabil Fekir had scored.
After the action, referee Ricardo de Burgos stopped the match for around eight minutes so that the medical teams could enter the field of play and treat the person affected.
Subsequently, de Burgos collected the object and handed it over to the field delegate who decided that the match would not be resumed.
From there, the referee sent both teams to the locker room while the league authorities investigate the event hoping to find the person responsible for the action.
In a short statement on social networks, the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed the suspension of the match and rejected any act of violence.
Now we will have to wait to know the rescheduling of the meeting but it was expected that it would produced the debut of Sevilla’s new signing, the Mexican Jesús “Tecatito” Corona, who will be linked to the club until 2022.
