After losing his legal appeal against the decision to cancel his visa, Novak Djokovic had to leave Australia and will not be able to play the Australian Open.

The deportation conflict, which lasted several days, originated because the tennis player is not vaccinated against COVID-19, so there were a lot of obstacles to granting a visa to enter a country under medical exemption.

Djokovic lost the appeal

The number 1 in the world lost the appeal before an Australian court for the second time about his visa, so he will not be able to defend his title in the competition to be held in said country.

The decision was taken unanimously by three judges of the Federal Court, which means that the Serb will have to be deported and will also present a prohibition to return to the country for a period of three years, with certain exceptions.

The Australian immigration minister commented that the presence of the tennis player, who has not been vaccinated, in the country, could generate an increase in anti-vaccination sentiment and even incite civil unrest iles.

Djokovic’s response

In this sense, and after the cancellation of the visa, the Serb said that he would cooperate with the authorities to organize his departure from the country, but he confessed that he was extremely disappointed.

Djokovic’s substitute at the Australian Open

Following the decision, the tournament organizers have decided to replace Djokovic with the Italian Salvatore Caruso, who will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic .
