Polish Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich striker, was awarded FIFA’s The Best for Best Player for the second consecutive year, ahead of Argentine Lionel Messi and Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
Lewandowski completed a magnificent 2021, where he won the Bundesliga and the German Super Cup, as well as scoring 41 goals throughout a calendar year. He also broke Gerd Müller’s historic record, after scoring 41 as many in the same season in the Teutonic league.
“I dreamed of breaking that record. I thought it was impossible to score so many goals in the Bundesliga, but it was achieved. I want to thank ‘Torpedo’ Müller for guiding me to break those figures”, he stated.
The Polish artilleryman acknowledged that he was “very proud” because for him “it is an honor to receive this award ”. He dedicated it to his technicians and colleagues for working together to achieve the goals set.
