This Tuesday, a Real Madrid legend, Francisco ‘Paco’ Gento, passed away at 88 years old, communicated the Spanish club on their digital platforms. This news mourns Spanish and world football because of how significant the career of the left winger was.
He defended the Real Madrid shirt for 12 years, since 1953 until 1971, and after retirement he remained close to the club. Until in 2016 Florentino Pérez and the club members named him honorary president.
As a white footballer, he holds the record for being the player with the most Spanish leagues won in history with trophies (1955, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1962, 1963, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 19691954, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1961, 1963, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969.
He is also the top winner of European Cups (today Champions League) with six: 1956, 1957, 1959, 1959, 1960, 1967. The one born in Guarnizo, a town in Cantabria, scored 88 goals in 600 matches with the merengue club.
