Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, as well as a group of oligarchs, businessmen and journalists, were sanctioned this Monday by the European Union (EU) by freezing their assets as a result of the war that began last Thursday against Ukraine.

Among those affected by the sanctions are six oligarchs, several personalities close to the Russian president, including his spokesman, and a dozen journalists appear on a list of 26 names that was approved by the Member States, and published this Monday in the official gazette of the European Union.

Last Friday, it became known that both Putin , like Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, were included in the sanctions package.

Among the sanctioned names stand out such as Igor Sheshin, head of the oil group Rofneft; Nikolay Tokarev, Chairman of Transneft; Alisher Usmanov, a businessman close to President Putin; bankers Petro Oleovich Aven and Mijaíl Fridman, the latter shareholder and founder of the Alpha Group conglomerate, and Serguei Pavlovich Rolduguin, cellist and businessman, Infobae said.

The first list, whose publication occurred after the Putin’s announcement to invade Ukrainian territory, also included 23 personalities, including Sergei Shoigú, Russian Defense Minister, as well as various military personnel; the head of the Kremlin administration and the head of the RT media after his involvement in the recognition of the separatist regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Three banks, one company and 351 members of the Duma, which is the lower house of the Russian Parliament, who voted to recognize the independence of the rebellious regions in eastern Ukraine.

In the early hours of the day, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations began the process of negotiations in Pripyat, the Ukrainian-Belarussian border territory, with the objective of Kiev to stop the fire promoted by the Kremlin.

The topics of negotiations on the Ukrainian side focused on stopping the wave of violence caused by the invasion; meanwhile, Russia is trying to address the possibility that Ukraine could adopt a neutral status with respect to NATO.
