Gervasio Deferr, former Spanish gymnast and two-time Olympic champion (2000, 2000), told an impressive anecdote about the night before winning the gold medal in Athens 2004: he got drunk and He doesn’t even remember how he went to sleep.
The Spaniard confessed his tough battle against alcohol and drugs in an interview for Jordi Évole on the program Lo De Évole. While describing what he had experienced with addictions, Deferr revealed to the world what he did the night before his two-time championship.
And unlike what a testimony shows us that shows the production of the program before (isolate, rest and eat well), the Spaniard decided to go out drinking to the point where he forgot how he fell asleep.
“I don’t remember how I went to sleep. The day before the final, I leave the competition area and I see where there are some relatives having a few beers and I ask for a mug that big and I say: Fuck it!“, says Deferr.
Gervasio, that same day in the morning, had failed in the floor final. He only had the final in colt that he finally won a day later. Despite this, the frustration led him to get drunk, with the “lucky” fact that he did not even have a hangover the next day, as he himself confesses.
“Well, I don’t know how others won it (the Olympic gold medals), but it was like that (after a drunken spree),” the Spaniard concludes.
