The governor of Nevada, Steve Sisolak, faced one of the most awkward moments of his political career while eating at a restaurant in Las Vegas with his wife.
From According to the local press, at least two men verbally assaulted him, made a series of threats and criticized him for misinformation about the pandemic caused by covid.
The Las Vegas Review-Jornal obtained a video recorded with a cell phone in which a man can be seen putting his arm around Steve Sisolak and asking him if he is the governor, to which the victim answers yes.
After confirmation, the man began to attack him: “This is incredible. I can’t tell you what piece of shityou are”.
Steve Sisolak regretted hearing his assailant’s statement and tried to get away quickly accompanied by his wife.
Another man asks him where his safety is, while the other assailant in a very loud tone tells him about a far-right conspiracy theory that talks about a drug that does not help treat covid.
The men also bragged about the alleged money he has stolen: “Wait until we find all the money that flowed to him. Yes, they hid the hydroxychloroquine”.
While Steve Sisolak hastened his pace and that of his wife to leave the place, one of his assailants accused him of being part of the far-right conspiracy theory with roots in anti-Semitism and who works for China called “New World Order”.
The men, whose names are unknown until now, followed him to the street where they continued with the attacks : “Do you know what happens to traitors? Hang the traitors! We should hang you from a utility pole right now!”.
After the events, which apparently took place inside a Mexican food restaurant, Steve Sisolak’s campaign spokesman, Reeves Oyster lamented and denounced what happened.
“Words have consequences and the Republican camp should be horrified that their rhetoric encourages violence. Anything other than a complaint is condoning this behavior and encouraging it to continue,” Oyster’s statement reads.
