It is already a fact that this coming May 7 Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will return to the ring to face the Russian Dmitry Bivol, but now according to information from ESPN, the fight could be held in Dubai and not in the United States.

According to the sports network, the United Arab Emirates is one of the biggest bets to host the fight where the WBA World Semi-Complete Championship will be played.

However, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, continues to have numbers to keep the fight going, as is customary on Canelo Álvarez’s schedule.

Eddie Hearn, owner of the Matchroom Boxing promoter who will be the one in charge of organizing the fight, also recently declared to ESPN that she would like to see the Mexican fighting in other latitudes.

“(Canelo Álvarez) is the greatest attraction in America, probably also in the rest of the world. I would love to see him in such big things in the United Kingdom, Japan, China, the Middle East, in all those territories because he is a tremendous boxer”, he expressed.

In fact, Hearn himself already knows what is to organize fights in exotic destinations because he was responsible for taking the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz to the Middle East, specifically to Saudi Arabia in December of 2019.

In case Dubai is chosen as the city that hosts the fight between Canelo and Bivol, a streak will be broken of 21 fights in line with Canelo Álvarez in the United States while the Russian has never fought in Asia but in other countries such as the United Kingdom, Monaco and the United States itself.

For this Wednesday, February 2, the first face-to-face between both boxers is expected to take place, thus marking the beginning of the promotions for the fight to be held on May 7.
