The decomposing body of a man was found under a sofa in a Queens apartment on Wednesday, and police reported today that this person appears to have been dead for a few weeks.
Police responded to a report of a foul odor inside an apartment on Jamaica Avenue near 77 Street in Woodhaven around at 1 pm, when the man was discovered under the sofa with a back injury, authorities said.
EMS responded and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The body was so decomposed that they do not know who it is ”, a police source told The New York Post.
Because the body was “so decomposed ”, investigators at the scene believe he may have been dead for a couple of weeks, police said.
The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office will officially determine how he died and how long he has been dead. At the moment, the police do not have information on the circumstances of the death and no arrests related to this case have been reported.

This very morning, a man from 72-year-old was beaten to death during a fight with his cousin in their shared Brooklyn apartment, police said.
The victim was discovered lying in bed unconscious with head trauma when Police responded to a call to 550 at the Kosciuszko Street apartment near Tompkins Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 4: 30 am, as reported by the police.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, and immediately his cousin of 60 year old was arrested at the scene by police, with charges pending.
