A visitor to a park in Lower Manhattan had perhaps the biggest scare of his life when he found the body of a man hanging from a tree yesterday, at the beginning of the week and the day of Halloween.
According to the authorities, a call was received at 911 yesterday around 7: 48 am to report that a man had been found hanging by the Pier 42 on the East River Greenway. It is unclear how long he had been dead there.
The city medical examiner’s office ruled the death a suicide. The man is believed to have had between 48 and 65 years old, police said. The release of his name was pending family notification, reported New York Post.
Several bodies have been found this year in Central Park, the largest park in the city. In mid-October an elderly man was found dead in a pond, days after the partially decomposed body of a young man was discovered floating in a lake near 79th Street and West Drive, no signs of crime.
And last July the death of a homeless Latino youth was ruled a near homicide 10 months after his body was found with a noose around his neck in Central Park, giving the initial impression that he had committed suicide.
