A young father of a family died and a teenager was injured in a shooting of at least 11 shots fired yesterday outside a NYCHA housing project in Brooklyn.
According to police, the gunman chased at least one of the victims through a Sheepshead Bay Houses walkway on Avenue V near Nostrand Ave. around 5: 10 pm on Monday. The attacker fired a few 19 shots while running after his target.
A woman from 19 years old was shot in the chest, right knee and hip. Meanwhile, Jamel Nicholson, aged 25, was shot in the chest and buttocks, police said .
The teen fell to the ground as Nicholson ran around a block before collapsing on nearby Brown St. between two parked cars. Both victims were taken to Brookdale University Hospital, but the man could not be saved. The woman was reported in stable condition.
“There were three shots and then many later,” he told Daily News witness Jamel Davis, of 42 years. “This guy came running after me into my building and said, ‘They were shooting at me.’ When it was over, there were two people lying there.”
The gunman left in a white pickup truck headed in the opposite direction of traffic on Haring St. The relationship between the victims and whether both or one of them was the target of the attack.
Nicholson left three orphaned children. “He was a good father and a loving man,” said the unidentified mother of one of his children. “Leave three children. We cannot believe this.”
