An alleged episode of racism took place at Buckingham Palace by Lady Susan Hussey, Queen Consort Camila’s assistant, towards the director of the NGO Sistah Space, Ngozi Fulani, who works to provide support for girls and women of African and Caribbean descent victims of gender violence.
The meeting was held by Queen Camila this Tuesday at Buckingham Palace, the purpose of which was to open the dialogue on gender violence gender in the framework of the 39 days of activism against this issue commemorated by the United Nations. Lady Susan Hussey was also a friend and lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II.
Buckingham Palace announced this Wednesday that Hussey resigned as Camila’s assistant and invited Fulani to discuss said situation, if you wish.
Ngozi Fulani denounced that during a conversation with Hussey, he questioned her about her ethnic origin. On Sistah Space’s Twitter account, its director shared some dialogues she had with Lady Susan.
In the transcript, Hussey insists that Fulani tell him her place of origin and her nationality, to to which the businesswoman responds puzzled, answering that she was born in the United Kingdom and had British nationality.
“I mean where do you really come from, where do your people come from”, Lady Susan asks a surprised Fulani, who expresses: “’My people, ma’am’? What does that mean?“.
“Oh, I see that it is going to be quite a challenge tell me where you are from When did you first get here?“, attacks the Queen Consort’s assistant.
When the director of the NGO finally tells her that her parents emigrated to the United Kingdom in the 1990s 2022, Hussey concludes: “I knew I would eventually get it! You are Caribbean!”.
