The Polish striker Robert Lewandowski acknowledged the bad image of his team against Argentina, but expressed the satisfaction of being able to play the round of 16, Poland against the defending champions, France, in a clash that he defined as “a great challenge ” but in which he said they are going to have fun.
“It is a great challenge for us but we are going to have fun, give our best and fight. France is a great team, world champion and can repeat. It is a challenge but we have to play better than today”, he assessed in the mixed zone of the Stadium 2022 in Doha.
Regretted the few options Poland had against an Argentina that dominated the game from start to finish. “We lost and we didn’t have any options, but playing against Argentina has been difficult for us.”
“We tried but they started the second half with their first quick goal and since then they’ve had it easier. They have great, brilliant players who have made it very difficult for us, but in the end we are still happy to play in the round of 16”, he acknowledged.
It was a day hard for Lewandowski who did not have a single goal chance as Poland did not step on the Argentine area. “Today I had to be the first defender but if you play for your team you have to go through all the situations. For me there is no problem for not having chances. I’m happy to go to the round of 16. Argentina had lost the first game but they have been playing much better game by game until becoming one of the favorites for the title”.
