at-least-seven-deceased-left-the-new-year's-celebration-in-paraguay

At least seven people lost their lives in different circumstances during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Paraguay, the National Police reported this Sunday, which responded to 1,319 emergencies reported to the 911 system.

Of the total number of deaths, two were due to drowning, one to homicide and another due to a traffic accident, the institution reported on its Twitter account.

A corpse was also found, while another person was electrocuted and in one more case the cause of death is being investigated.

In its report on emergency complaints, the National Police of Paraguay revealed that of the 1,319 cases intervened, 262 corresponded to complaints of intrafamily violence.

Similarly, 93 traffic accidents and 22 robberies were attended, as well as calls for disturbance of public peace and noise pollution.

On the occasion of the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Paraguayan authorities relaunched the campaign “No manejes ka”úre” (“Don’t drive drunk”, in the Guarani language), in order to avoid possible accidents and tragedies caused by people driving in intoxicated state.

In addition, the National Police and the War Material Directorate (Dimabel) once again launched a plan for citizens to denounce those who shoot indiscriminately during these dates as a form of celebration.

The strategy was inspired by the case of Paz Vera, a three-year-old girl who lost her life in 2012 when she was hit by a stray bullet.
