A pair of 81-year-old twins from Ontario, Canada won a prize of $300,000 Canadian dollars (about $221,412 US dollars) playing the lottery. And this was not the first time they have accomplished this feat.
Geraldine Fobert and Joyce Brady of the City of Belleville, two retirees from the Hawkins Cheezie Factory, are as lucky as they are generous.
And it is that the two have been playing the lottery since 2010 and have won three prizes: $100,000 Canadian dollars (about $73,804 US dollars) in 2011, $1 million in 2015 (about $738,000 dollars) and $300,000 in 2023.
Whenever they have won in the past, the twins have helped their friends and family in need, charities and churches. This time is no different.
Fobert was running errands and decided to buy a Scratch-Off lottery ticket for herself and her sister at a Victoria Convenience store branch in Belleville. She realized that they had won big.
“At first, I thought the machine had broken down, but when the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) called, I knew we had won a lot,” Fobert told the folks at the OLG Awards Center.
“I went home to tell Joyce and told her I’m not sure how much we make because we have to go to Toronto to find out how much.”
Once in Toronto, the sisters learned that they had won $300,000.
“We are very lucky. We are going to share with our sister-in-law, our family and friends in need, and our churches. We’ll see what’s left after we take care of everyone else,” Brady said.
The twins said that they already have a very good life and feel blessed.
