This Friday, April 28, the Russian air forces carried out a bloody attack in the city of Uman, located in the center of the country, which caused the death of at least 23 civilians, the highest number of citizens killed since the January, according to reports from The New York Times.
The Russian Ministry of Defense indicated, in a public statement, that it used high-precision and long-range missiles “against places of shelter of Ukrainian reservists.”
The attack began at 4:00 am last Friday, when 23 missiles were fired from the Russian airbase located on the Caspian Sea, according to information from the Ukrainian air force.
Reports from the Ukrainian air defenses, reviewed by CNN, indicated that 21 of the 23 missiles were intercepted. Unfortunately, two came to hit the cities of Uman and Dnipro.
Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko said the building that was hit by one of the missiles was partially destroyed.
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, indicated, through his Twitter account, that at least six children died during the attack on Uman, and confirmed that 23 people lost their lives in the city.
On the other hand, two people died due to the attack that occurred in the city of Dnipro. According to CNN, the victims were a mother and her two-year-old son.
In addition to the deaths, at least 18 people were injured in the attack on Uman, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The attack provoked international reactions adverse to Russia.
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, on the one hand, condemned the attack in a press release issued on Friday.
“Targeting Ukraine’s infrastructure, as well as civilian populations, reveals Russia’s desire to continue escalating the conflict of its aggressive war in Ukraine,” the minister said, according to CNN.
