In the middle of the farewell ceremony that FC Barcelona held for him on the Camp Nou pitch, midfielder Sergio Busquets assured that this “is not a goodbye, it’s a see you later”, revealing that he could return to the team in another facet.
“Thank you all very much, it has been a pleasure to spend fifteen years in the club of my life. Our paths will meet again”, said the Barcelona captain with deep emotion.
In relation to the decision to retire from the team at the end of the season, he commented that it is a “law of life”, and that his decision was clear from the beginning of 2023.
The farewell ceremony began with a video showing the best moments of Busquets during the 15 years he was in the Barcelona first team.
The act began with the viewing of a video with the best actions of ‘Busi’ throughout the fifteen years that he was in the Barça first team.
After reviewing his career in the Barça team, he said that the best year of his career was the first he was at Barcelona, when he met the strategist Pep Guardiola, and with whom he won the sextet.
“Everything came together, the coach was spectacular and there was a human group with spectacular football quality. We were one step ahead of all the teams”, said Busquets.
“I’ll get my coach’s card, I want to see if I’m worth it, it’s not just about football, you have to know how to manage the players, their emotions,” added Busquets in relation to his possible future as a coach.
He was also accompanied by former Barcelona players Gerard Piqué and Bojan Krkic, now retired, who went up on stage to talk about some anecdotes with their former teammate.
“I never suffered when he took risks, because he knew it would work out for him, it was his style of play, it’s what has made him unique at Can Barça,” Piqué stressed.
