paraguayan-girl-survived-for-weeks-with-a-cap-of-toothpaste-lodged-in-her-throat

The doctors of the Regional Hospital of Encarnación, located in the south of Paraguay, were surprised after treating the case of a seven-year-old girl who came to the clinic quite ill.

According to the medical report, for approximately three weeks, the little girl had been experiencing a constant tickle in her throat, which caused her prolonged and exhausting coughing attacks without medication helping her to lessen them.

Noticing that their daughter’s state of health tended to worsen, her parents decided to transfer her to the hospital, but the reason for the patient’s discomfort was not immediately determined, since her health history was unknown, so they sent her a letter. new dose of medicines, which also had no effect.

In this way, on a second visit, the doctors performed an X-ray to rule out bronchitis or pneumonia, but when examining the girl’s lungs and her respiratory tract, thanks to a thin tube, they noticed that at the bottom of her throat she had the lid of a tube of toothpaste.

In this regard, Dr. Walter Benítez, director of the Hospital de Encarnación, pointed out to the news site “Más Encarnación” how complex it was to reach the diagnosis that saved the life of the girl whose identity is kept secret.

“First of all, the diagnosis was unknown because the mother consulted the doctors for a cough. So, using a device called a fiberoptic bronchoscope, we looked at what appeared to be a toothpaste cap. Afterwards, using the same apparatus, the foreign object was successfully removed,” she described.

In this way, after a few days of observation, the little girl was sent home, but not before recommending both her and her parents to be very careful when trying to open the tube of toothpaste, as an oversight It can cause death, this in case the lid of the container obstructs the passage of air and saliva through the trachea.

Until now, the doctors do not explain how the patient survived for so many days.
